SERVICES
To support your child I can offer a range of services, these include:
A Choice of Assessments – Initial or Detailed
An Initial Assessment (This assessment is suitable for the majority of children)
An Initial Assessment of your child’s needs in your home or in my therapy setting. This normally lasts up to an 90 minutes and includes:
- Collation of background information (details about your child’s development, medical history and interests)
- Observation and assessment of your child’s communication skills through play
- Screening assessment to give an indication of your child’s communication needs
- Guidance for supporting your child’s speech and language at home
- Liaison with your child’s preschool or school as required
- Initial Assessment Summary giving an overview of your child’s communication skills and needs following the initial assessment.
- Suggested targets for therapy input if required.
or,
A Detailed Assessment
A full assessment of your child’s needs in your home and/or educational setting and lasts up to two and a half hours and includes:
- Collation of background information (details about your child’s development, medical history and interests)
- Observation and assessment of your child’s communication skills through play
- Detailed assessment of your child’s communication using standardised assessments as appropriate
- Guidance for supporting your child’s speech and language at home
- Full written report of your child’s communication skills and needs following the detailed assessment
- Liaison with your child’s preschool or school as required
- Suggested targets for therapy input if required.
Therapy Sessions
Sessions last between 30 to 40 minutes and are held at your home, in my therapy room, or in your child’s preschool or school setting. Sessions include:
Fun activities to develop your child’s speech and language skills.
Demonstration of games and activities to develop your child’s skills between appointments.
Feedback and discussion of progress plus Resources to suit your child’s needs.
I always invite parents or a member of staff to be involved in the therapy sessions too and a quiet environment will help to make the therapy sessions as successful as possible.
Preschool / School Visits
Visits can be made to your child’s educational setting in order to:
Observe how your child communicates in their setting as part of a detailed assessment.
Demonstrate activities / train staff to support your child.
I can also meet with you and staff in the child’s setting to a agree a plan for supporting your child.
Meetings
I can attend meetings to discuss your child’s support and progress.
These may be annual reviews in school, progress meetings in preschool or meetings with other professionals working with your child.
If you are unable to attend I will feed back to you outcomes etc. at an agreed time.
Travel
No fee charged for the first 20 minutes of travel to and from appointments.
An Excess charge may be applied for longer journeys to cover additional time and travel costs.
FEES
In line with guidelines for the profession, Independent Speech and Language Therapists must charge at rates that reflect not only the value of the time devoted to face-to-face assessment and treatment, but also the significant time which is spent on planning therapy, making resources, additional preparation, written records of treatment sessions, reports, and liaison with other professionals between appointments.
I feel my fees are competitive and offer value for money. As a guide an Initial Assessment is normally charged at £155 with therapy sessions, including all the associated time for preparation etc., charged at £55 per session.

I invoice fees regularly so you can keep abreast of costs.
The assessment fee is required at the end of the assessment session. Therapy sessions, and any additional fees in relation to reports, meetings or school/nursery visits are invoiced at the end of each month and I ask that these be settled by the 7th of the following month. For example invoiced 31st March paid by the 7th April.
